Quote:"I'm of the camp that reducing abortion is best accomplished by preventing pregnancy."
Quoted from a debate over the South Dakota abortion ban

Reply:As am I. As a biological female, I regard abortion as a last resort, and take measures to see that my situation never gets to that point. With that said, our public institutions need to make access to barrier and oral contraceptives inexpensive and easy, and to increase awareness and education. As this would involve increased spending of education tax dollars, and the establishment of a public healthcare system, I think we may acknowledge that our current political climate is prohibitive of that ever happening. Ergo, that last resort should still be available to those who lack the other resources. After all, if you can't even afford the pill, or aren't responsible enough to remember to take it, how are you supposed to undertake the care, feeding and education of another human being?

I posted my reply here in the quiet of my own private forum that nobody reads because, as is typical for topics on the Seattle Gothic forum, the discussion had veered wildly off course and my views on the subject would have been out of context.

Note to self, never browse a topic more than six replies long...
